On cooking…

by Becka on August 20th, 2009

This time last year I was baking all the time. And cooking. Cooking and baking and loving it all. I had a little blog that I would share photos and recipes on and other foodies would leave me comments and give me tips. I did a challenge where we had to post a recipe every day for a month. It was so much fun. We were a little community of creators. I really loved it. And today, while perusing some of the old food blogs I used to read on a daily basis, I realized how much I miss it. I miss going to the farmers market every weekend. I miss cooking and baking in season, trying to find fun and delicious new recipes to use whatever veggies and fruits were overflowing the market that weekend. I miss actually eating at home with Nate instead of picking up something fast on the way home. I miss cooking together (one of our favorite things) and watching him toss all kinds of spices into simmering skillets. I miss the smell of cinnamon or roasted tomatoes filling our small condo room by room. If you had been wondering about the image of the coffee mug in the rotating header, wonder no more. The sweet little mug filled with chocolate chips, coconut, and warm oatmeal was added in to the rotation on purpose because I want to incorporate this love of cooking into this new blog. (I will be filing everything food related under the “Fun” category so if you prefer not to see recipes, you can follow our “Work” or “Life” instead.) I get excited just thinking about it. And as much as I love summer’s harvest and all the delicious, oh-so-roastable vegetables that come with it, I’m pretty excited for fall. Because fall means pumpkin-flavored EVERYTHING. And I just love pumpkin.

I’m also on the lookout for some new food blogs to follow. I’ve been keeping up with some of my old favorites and finding some new ones. My current favorites are Bella Eats, Pioneer Woman, Vegan Yum Yum and Vegan Dad. (No, I’m not a vegan, I’ll explain all that later on.) Do you like to bake or cook? Do you have any favorite food blogs for me to check out? I especially love ones with lots of pictures!

@Kate Me too! Have you ever had it fried with marinara sauce? That was the first way I’d ever tasted zucchini and it made me fall instantly in love!

I like to bake and cook when I have time, unfortunately that means no cooking/baking in the summer. However, when late fall rolls around I really enjoy being in the kitchen. During the summer I get my fix by visiting these wonderfully written blogs—they also have great images on them.

http://www.itsprettygood.com/pretty_good/ (not as many recipes on here, but a beautiful blog to visit with the occasional recipe)

Btw, have you seen Julie & Julia yet?? I’m really looking forward to going to see it.

    Happy Baking,
    Deb

ps….snickerdoodles are my all time favorite cookie. Your photo reminds me that I need to make some soon.
