Tuesdays With Nate | Obsessions
Welcome to 2010! For the next 50 (-ish, Iʼm sure Iʼll get lazy here and there) Tuesdays, youʼll get a chance to delve into the “backstage” of what makes us tick. Iʼll reveal all of Beckaʼs deepest and darkest secrets, throw out some fancy words, bore you with nerdy facts, and review some awesome new toys that Iʼll surely talk Becka into buying that probably donʼt even exist yet.
For this week, maybe because I scored some pretty sweet Christmas presents, Iʼm going to tell you about 3 things that I find myself obsessing over lately, in hopes to shed some light on some of my more awesome quirks.

1. HOT SAUCE | To say that I “like hot sauce” is like saying that the male castmembers of Jersey Shore are “kind of douche bags.” I use it on everything, I collect it, I search it out. Iʼve always said that one of my goals in life is to find food that was “too hot” for me to eat, and so far, I donʼt believe it exists. On my last trip to Saint Augustine, my parents picked up this early birthday present for me. Itʼs one of the hottest sauces on the market. Technically itʼs not a sauce, itʼs an “ingredient”, and my dad had to sign a waiver before he bought it (not even kidding). To get nerdy for a second, heat is measured on a scale called the “scoville heat unit” scale, which goes from 0-16,000,000. Tabasco sauce sits somewhere around 5,000, Habenero peppers are around 350,000, and the sauce in the front is around 1,500,000 (right below military grade pepper spray). Itʼs seriously hotter than Jessica Alba and Scarlet Johannsen Jello-wrestling for the privilege of making me dinner. The sauces around it range from about 10,000 (chipotle tabasco, it goes on everything) to 300,000. If anyone has any suggestions for good hot foods or sauces, PLEASE let me know!

2. VINTAGE CAMERAS | This is another one I can pin on my dad. A while back, my dad let me use his 1970ʼs Olympus OM-1, and Iʼve been on the hunt for vintage cameras ever since. Becka put a picture of my newest aquisition on the blog early last week, but I wanted to show you again, and Iʼll have some pictures taken with it up soon! Itʼs a 1960ʼs (ish) Yashica-D Medium Format Twin-Lens Reflex camera.

3. CALL OF DUTY: MODERN WARFARE 2 | Iʼve been so into Halo for the last 5 years that, out of loyalty to Bungie, I ignored all of my friends requests and “strong encouragement” to start playing Call of Duty. For the first few days, I hated it, then, I hated it even more. I couldnʼt play it like I played Halo, I had to learn all over again. Then I started playing with a few of my friends, then I started realizing how many people I know that already played it, then I played with more friends. I canʼt shake a stick around here without hitting someone else that plays COD (except for Becka), and I suspect that after this blog post Iʼll find that some of you (or your better halves) also play, and Iʼd love to play with you! My XBOX Live gamertag is ucfnate, hit me up.
So, what is the spiciest thing youʼve ever eaten? And what was the first video game you every really played? I mean that you REALLY wasted hours of your life that you wonʼt ever get back, but liked it so much that you wouldnʼt trade it for the world…..

@Candace That’s really cool. One of the cameras my dad gave me has film in it and we’re going to try to get it developed as well. So excited to get to peek into a random stranger’s history. It’s even better for you since it’s your family’s! Have fun! Send us some sample shots when you get it going again!
Nate, for your vintage camera delight, I have a 1939 Kodak Brownie that my father found stored in the top of my grandparent’s closet. It has a compatible flash for it and it was even found with a few (short) rolls of undeveloped film. He was actually able to have the film developed! I was told the tech said she was so nervous trying to be OH SO CAREFUL with the old film that her hands were shaking a bit, but she was successful!!! My father was in at least one photo and he was just a young boy which would place the film at nearly 50 years old! I am lucky to have it, and love that it has always been in my family. I have previously researched film for it online and at the time I looked it up, film could be specially ordered. There are a few extra film spools that were also found with it, so whenever I FINALLY get around to ordering the film and testing it out, I won’t have to order them too. (It takes 620 size film.) I think I should get around to testing it soon…you have certainly spawned my interest in it again!
Nate, It was only a matter of time for MW2 to take over!!!
Gamertag Rico813 I will hit you up…
Spiciest ever? Habanero pepper straight! I thought I was going to die. And video game? Probably the original Zelda on Nintendo-the OLD one. We broke it out a few months back and beat it again! I’ll have to check out that hot sauce-I loooove spicy food!
Wow, I really feel like I wrote that post. I have recently been introduced to really spicy foods (in the past year kind of recent) and I haven’t been able to find something yet that is too hot for me to eat. Love the challenge though! I go through phases with video games. For a while back in the day I played spiro.. yeah I know. lol. Then Mario Galaxy and now I’m hooked on both all the lego games (have Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Batman) and the new Mario Brothers game for Wii. Definitely recommend them!
Shawn is OBSESSED with call of duty!! so much so I now dawn an ipod/ear plugs and a sleep mask because he stays up to 3 in the morning with his friends on that little headset thing playing!!!! if only it were in the other room =)
