Paper Hearts: Lauren & Ryan’s lovely downtown engagement

Mar 24 at 2:22 pm

Downtown Orlando, Florida

Ryan and Lauren are from Indiana and we will be shooting their wedding up there just a few weeks before we leave for our own wedding this fall. Both Ryan and Lauren lived here in Orlando for a time and they both loved the downtown area. I can’t really blame them, Orlando has a lovely downtown that actually hustles and bustles like a big metropolitan city. I’m always impressed when I drive through in the daytime and see all the people walking around. It’s clean and it’s maintained. The people are friendly and there are all kinds of little places to pop in and out of for coffee or lunch. At night it comes alive with twinkly lights over Wall Street, thumping bass lines, and beautiful people. There’s a big lake taking up a few blocks surrounded by skyscraping condo buildings (reminiscent of Central Park). And my favorite place, just southeast of the lake is Thornton Park, an old area full of charm, 100 year old houses, and swanky restaurants. For someone who loves the feel of big cities like New York and San Francisco, it gives me a little taste of the city life without all that smog.

Nate and I made a resolution to begin styling our shoots this year as much as we can as something to give us more creative control and also just because it’s fun. With some situations, it’s easier than others. And even if it’s as simple of an idea as “cupcakes” or as storytelling as “a relaxed Sunday in Celebration”, we try to create a bit of a concept so that both our couples and we ourselves have an idea in mind as we move throughout the shoot. We’ve been having a lot of fun with these sessions and I think my favorite so far has been this downtown Orlando engagement session. I had the idea of working with a heart theme for this shoot so we did. See how many hearts you can spot in these…

We told them to talk about their first kiss, and this is the laughter that story produced…

This wall is used a lot in local shootss. I’ve been trying for months to think of a new way to use it. Done and Done.

I was so excited to play with bokeh shapes. These twinkly lights were perfect for tiny floating hearts…

  • Gramps:

11 b is my choice::: and I looked through them at least five times; fun to see them. Great photography, and the subjects are bad either.
    Thanks
    Gramps

  • Katy ( The Balanced Foodie ):

I LOVE the confetti picture. That may be my fave, I think it’s cause of the way he looks at her. Oh and holy wow, her dresses are AMAZING! Did you ask her where she got them?? Love this shoot, beautiful couple!

  • Megan Bevis:

I love this entire shoot! How cute?! I think my favorite is with the confetti (so CREATIVE) but the paper hearts are adorable too, and the market lights!! I love it all :)

  • Lora (formerly Roney now Vail) :):

We were going to shoot in front of the orange wall on our wedding day but there was some event/concert/whatever downtown so we couldn’t. :( It’s one of my favorite locations. Not sure I’d want to actually sit on the ground in that vacant lot though, I always see trash and broken glass everywhere, haha.
I love the hearts theme! So awesome.

  • steph anne:

I definitely agree with you – your favorite is my favorite too!! You’re really tempting me to fly down there just to have you take our pictures! Or come to Arizona. :) I really wish I knew about your blog before we got married in 2008.

  • robin cornett:

Beautiful!!! I love the third image in, but your favorite is pretty spectacular. Looks like they had a great time with you–awesome!

Wedding at the Marriott World Center | Megan & Chris Sneak Peek

Mar 22 at 2:22 pm

Orlando World Center Marriott | Orlando, Florida

Well, I can announce it now. If you read yesterday you know that I was keeping something to myself until it was finalized and now it is. Nate and I just signed the lease on a studio space in Winter Park. We’re off to go shopping today for some lovely furnishings for it. We have big plans for it and are so excited that this dream is finally happening. It’s going to be a gorgeous shared space for us and a few other creative professionals here in Orlando. I can’t wait to see it finished. For over a year I’ve been wanting to make something like this happen and now it finally is. We’re hoping to have it open in the next few weeks and we’d love to have you swing by. We’ll talk more about that later. ;)

Until then, enjoy these frames from Megan and Chris’ wedding this last weekend. They invited us out to the Marriott World Center to celebrate their day with them and spoiled us completely rotten. Not only was Paramore playing when we walked into the bridal suite but they greeted us with hugs and smiles, made sure we had any and everything we needed all day, and had a place card and lovely seats for us among the guests at the reception and… one of the best vegetarian dinners I’ve ever had at a wedding! Thanks to Megan and Chris, family, and friends for treating us like family. We hope you enjoy this sneak peek…

I’ve been blogging for years now. Let’s see, it’s been 7 years. I started in college on livejournal, then I moved to blogger where I stayed for a really long time. Then I moved here. I’ve gone from personal blogging, to food and life blogging, to work blogging, and now to whatever mix this current blog is…. inspiration blogging perhaps? So when I can, I like to carve out little pieces of this blog to dedicate to my roots, to the blog community. A community I’ve been a part of for 7 years. (That’s almost long enough for a common law marriage, just saying.) These should keep you all busy for a little while…

A list of my favorite inspiring blogs (and some later chit-chatting) for your weekend.
straight from my “inspiring blogs” bookmarks folder (a sacred place, feel special).

Today we’re off shooting Megan & Chris‘ wedding. Tomorrow we’re meeting with a man about a rental space which may or may not be the most stressful exciting thing going on in my life right now. Next week is dedicated to finishing up the projects in our “In Progress” folder and some antique shopping. I’m too excited. I’ve been all about the mid-century teak recently. I really want to find an Eames lounge chair.

Has anyone been doing spring cleaning recently? Nate and I are thinking of doing a major purge. We’re also thinking of having a blog yard sale. Would anyone be interested? That’s only if we can find things worth more than a trip to the dumpster. ;)

PS. We’ve added two cute little blog badges that you can put on your blogs if you’d like to show your love and support for us. (Bottom of the right sidebar.) There’s a long rectangle one and the more standard square depending on how your layout works. Just copy and paste the code in the boxes and we’ll send you air kisses.

And lastly, if you have a blog, make sure you include it in the form when you leave us a comment. I love checking out your blogs as well!

Have a wonderful Saturday!

I Love Love Love the Pioneer woman!!! So funny that we share that :) I knew we were sympatico!

  • Andrea [bella eats]:

Aw, I am completely flattered! Thank you Becka, for the blog love! :)

I love when my favorite bloggers post THEIR favorite blogs, it is such a great introduction to some amazingly creative people, I just wish I had time to keep up with them all!

Have fun with the antique shopping. My hubb and I have been obsessed with Danish Modern furniture since our first year of architecture school, they kind of brainwash you with it. :) It is a constant obsession for us. Design Sponge has a decent Orlando city guide that lists some great antique stores on Antique Row in Winter Park (I believe…), you should check it out!

  • anda:

You are both a new-to-me blog and one I definitely bookmarked. I came across you through twitter and I am so happy that I did. As someone just starting out in photography your story is inspirational and your blog is refreshing and insightful. And not to mention that y’all are super talented. I love how both of your personalities come through your blog and you are both so REAL. I have been reading for the past hour.

Thank you for sharing your work, lives, and vision.
