Paper Hearts: Lauren & Ryan’s lovely downtown engagement
Downtown Orlando, Florida
Ryan and Lauren are from Indiana and we will be shooting their wedding up there just a few weeks before we leave for our own wedding this fall. Both Ryan and Lauren lived here in Orlando for a time and they both loved the downtown area. I can’t really blame them, Orlando has a lovely downtown that actually hustles and bustles like a big metropolitan city. I’m always impressed when I drive through in the daytime and see all the people walking around. It’s clean and it’s maintained. The people are friendly and there are all kinds of little places to pop in and out of for coffee or lunch. At night it comes alive with twinkly lights over Wall Street, thumping bass lines, and beautiful people. There’s a big lake taking up a few blocks surrounded by skyscraping condo buildings (reminiscent of Central Park). And my favorite place, just southeast of the lake is Thornton Park, an old area full of charm, 100 year old houses, and swanky restaurants. For someone who loves the feel of big cities like New York and San Francisco, it gives me a little taste of the city life without all that smog.
Nate and I made a resolution to begin styling our shoots this year as much as we can as something to give us more creative control and also just because it’s fun. With some situations, it’s easier than others. And even if it’s as simple of an idea as “cupcakes” or as storytelling as “a relaxed Sunday in Celebration”, we try to create a bit of a concept so that both our couples and we ourselves have an idea in mind as we move throughout the shoot. We’ve been having a lot of fun with these sessions and I think my favorite so far has been this downtown Orlando engagement session. I had the idea of working with a heart theme for this shoot so we did. See how many hearts you can spot in these…
We told them to talk about their first kiss, and this is the laughter that story produced…

This wall is used a lot in local shootss. I’ve been trying for months to think of a new way to use it. Done and Done.

Most definitely my FAVORITE.

I was so excited to play with bokeh shapes. These twinkly lights were perfect for tiny floating hearts…

@Rachael Well I’m soooo glad you’re back! :)
Love love love love all the hearts. LOVE. And I just realized that your blog feed disappeared from my Google Reader, so I’ll be spending some time here :)
this made me feel warm and happy inside, especially the confetti shot and your favorite. I love how the scenes and colors match their obvious delight in each other.
What can I say that hasn’t already been said, superb job guys! Loving the styling of this shoot!
I love how you incorporated the hearts with that AHMAZING Bokeh! We have a similar spot in our town that is ironically the exact same clay color… and you have totally inspired me to do more with it!!! Thank you for the inspiration! You guys rock!
So gorgeous, it’s hard to pick a favorite. I love them all! And I love her lavender dress, it’s so pretty.
Yeah this is a rockin’ session you guys!! Love it!
gorgeous shoot! and how cute is her dress?!?!
I have to say the confetti one is my fav of the day!! it’s such a great captured moment!!! =) very cute shoot!
oh what a lovely shoot!
@Gramps Thanks Gramps :)
@Lora Well you’re just not as dedicated then ;) It was pretty clean when we were there, just depends where you look
So adorable!! Love the heart theme :)
11 b is my choice::: and I looked through them at least five times; fun to see them. Great photography, and the subjects are bad either.
Thanks
Gramps
I LOVE the confetti picture. That may be my fave, I think it’s cause of the way he looks at her. Oh and holy wow, her dresses are AMAZING! Did you ask her where she got them?? Love this shoot, beautiful couple!
I love this entire shoot! How cute?! I think my favorite is with the confetti (so CREATIVE) but the paper hearts are adorable too, and the market lights!! I love it all :)
We were going to shoot in front of the orange wall on our wedding day but there was some event/concert/whatever downtown so we couldn’t. :( It’s one of my favorite locations. Not sure I’d want to actually sit on the ground in that vacant lot though, I always see trash and broken glass everywhere, haha.
I love the hearts theme! So awesome.
I definitely agree with you – your favorite is my favorite too!! You’re really tempting me to fly down there just to have you take our pictures! Or come to Arizona. :) I really wish I knew about your blog before we got married in 2008.
Beautiful!!! I love the third image in, but your favorite is pretty spectacular. Looks like they had a great time with you–awesome!
