Friday Daydreaming | Anniversary in the Maldives

Apr 30 at 2:22 pm

Since I spend way too much time googling (is “googling” an official verb yet?) various locations and looking up cities on Trip Advisor, I figured I’d keep up these Friday Daydreaming posts and hopefully they’ll give you some inspiration for your own honeymoons, vacations, or even just for a 5 minute daydream at your desk. Pina colada not required, but suggested. ;)

Earlier this week, out of nowhere Nate turned to me and said, “I don’t know how but we need to do whatever it takes to get to this place.” (Um… sell a kidney perhaps?) And with that, he turned the computer screen to show me an image of a bedroom suite underwater. Literally an arched, 360 degree aquarium view overhead. WHAT? Yeah, I know. Interwebs, meet the Maldives- little, Fiji-looking islands floating in the middle of the Indian Ocean. I’m not usually a tropical vacation kind of girl, since I was practically born and raised on the beach, but visiting islands like these has been on my bucket list since I first saw a photo of Fiji’s over-the-water style huts. The Conrad Maldives Rangali has one of the best ratings on tripadvisor I’ve ever seen and looks like something from one of those dream’s I fight to stay asleep for. I’d like one of those little huts on the water. Nate wants the aquarium view. I told Nate that we should go there for our first anniversary. I know… our first anniversary is about a year and a half away. You say overzealous, I say eager planning. ;)

Sources (clockwise): Sunset view from one of the suites | Just one part of the amazing coral all throughout the islands | A perfect vacation outfit from JCrew’s Turks and Caicos editorial shoot | More rooms over the water, yes please | Dusk in the room I’d like to stay in. Where do I sign?

Courtyard at Lake Lucerne, Dr. Phillips House | Sherrie & Shawn’s Wedding

Apr 28 at 2:22 pm

Dr. Phillips House | Courtyard at Lake Lucerne | Orlando, Florida

Happy Wednesday friends! I’ve got quite the blog post for you today. Interwebs, meet Sherrie & Shawn. You may already remember them from their engagement session with a 1957 Cadillac and all around Titusville. Yes, these two are quite the glamourous pair so we knew we had to bring our A game for their wedding at the historic Dr. Phillips House here in downtown Orlando. Nate and I had just gotten back from WPPI in Vegas when we shot this wedding and we were excited to try a few different things to push ourselves. We worked a bit more with lighting and shadows than we usually do which was easy this day since it was a bit overcast and rainy. I feel like shooting like this really dials up the drama in the images. Of course, having subjects like Sherrie and Shawn doesn’t hurt. I’m really happy with how the images turned out. I think they capture Sherri and Shawn perfectly… intimacy, fun, drama, and history. Enjoy friends!

  • Brie:

Ok, I honestly think your ring shots are THE best that I have seen. I love all the places you find to showcase them in/on and I think if I were the bride/groom I would want a wall portrait of them.

  • Brianna Phelan:

Soooo pretty. I tried to comment on this earlier and I don’t know if it went through. Sorry if you get this twice.

The lighting is beautiful. Her dress is gorgeous. Love her hair style too. Beautiful, beautiful.

  • Melinda:

I like the one of her dad walking her down the aisle. Such sweet expressions. That’s the kind of stuff I feel like a family would cherish for generations after all the artistic stuff loses it’s value or goes out of style. :)

  • Tami H.:

Tuesdays with Nate | Perks of the Job

Apr 27 at 2:22 pm

Do you ever ask someone that you think has an awesome job how great their life must be? I mean, like asking a pilot if he loves traveling, or a the guy behind the counter at your favorite BBQ restaurant if he just loves getting to eat all the free BBQ he wants? When you’re on the other side, it’s never quite as prestigious as it sounds (unless it’s 4Rivers BBQ, then it has to be awesome). I bring this up because a few weeks ago we had a realization that we had not been documenting our personal lives the way a pair of in-love photographers should be. We’ve spent a lot of time lately enjoying some new friends and trying out some new things, and we are now bringing cameras everywhere we go.

Here are a few from our personal catalog of images from the last month. It’s fun just shooting for ourselves, but we actually have to discipline ourselves to do it.

Being a photographer has it’s perks (as in having great documentation of our lives), what’s the best perk of your job?

  • Christopher Belcher:

    love the aquarium shot

  • Becka:

    Erin,
Nate had his on a strap across his body that time and it made me nervous. Usually we bring a backpack. :)

  • ESBlondie:

I’m in love with the first picture! So cool! When you go for bike rides, what do you do with your camera? Do you leave it around your neck? My husband and I ride a lot and I’ve love to take my nice camera.

  • Saudade:

I love the GA aquarium, that photo of the two of you is so cute!

I guess the best perk I get at my job apart from being able to draw pictures everyday is the opportunity to see winner’s faces when we occasionally get to print and bring down those giant lottery checks to them. That mix of disbelief/joy never gets old. It is sort of contagious in a way, whenever I meet a winner I just feel happy for the rest of the work day :)
