Kristin & Travis’ Encore in New York City

Aug 23 at 2:22 pm

Central Park | New York City, New York

Kristin and Travis. Perfection. Hilarious. Smarty pantses. (Is that a word? Oh well, they’re not English majors.) Smiley. Scholars. Quick witted. Relaxed. Dedicated. Unafraid. Patient. Loyal. They spent the first months of their marriage separated by thousands of miles. But now they’re reunited, and in it for the long haul. That’s why Kristin wanted to symbolically say goodbye to her wedding dress. Because the wedding is over. And now the marriage remains. And unlike the wedding dress, it’s not going anywhere.

    OMG… I saw the scissors and had a panic….

  • Allison Bess:

    Love these a ton. I want a fountain that big.

  • Janeen:

    These might be the best ones yet! I love looking at your work.

  • Becka:

    @Saudi YES please!

  • Saudade:

    Dare I say it? I think I love these photos so much more than their wedding ones (and I loved those a great deal), the fountain ones are just amazing, but the ones of them just laughing with each other in the leaves are also beautiful.

    I need to become insanely rich so we can take you two to Madrid and Segovia and run around my old haunts taking pics. *Sigh*

  • Becka:

    @Ewan Thanks so much!

  • Becka:

    @Lynn Many more. But I have to keep our blog posts from being too long. :)

  • Lynn:

    That is so good. Do you have any more of them cutting the dress

  • Dyan:

    LOVE the fountain pics! :)

  • Mich Bilyeu:

    so sweet. so symbolic! so fun :)

  • Ewan Phelan:

    Love the intimacy you captured between them. And her dress. And his beard. And the shots of them cutting off and throwing out the dress. And. And…

One of my favorites | Travis & Kristin’s Encore Sneak Peek

Aug 21 at 2:22 am

Central Park | New York City, New York

Travis and Kristin came up to NYC to meet us for their Encore session. We had been trying to make this thing happen in the city and luckily both of our schedules worked out. Travis and Kristin live in Boston (which we have now officially added to our need-to-visit list) and took the train up for the day to explore and say buh-bye to her dress.Our Encore sessions are any sessions after the wedding. They can be in your wedding clothes or not. You can ruin your clothes or not. Kristin and Travis wanted a very symbolic goodbye to her dress as a way of saying that the dress didn’t matter because they’re in this thing forever.

We started in Central Park where we walked from the southeast corner to the boathouse and around the trails behind it. We found an amazing spot on top of a little mountain overlooking the boaters in the lake and that’s where I snapped this frame. It’s one of my favorite images I’ve ever taken. All the elements came together at the exact right second and I’m in love.

After this Kristin and Travis decided to get in Bethesda fountain (aka, the hugely public fountain at the entrance to the lake where hundreds of people are at all times and where security can very publicly haul your arses away). Luckily, it was raining which cleared out most of the crowds. Then they did it. They got right in. The security guard had mercy on us and told us that as long as we could book it out of there before the guards came he would let us go so we did. But that’s not where this trip ended. Kristin wanted to really say goodbye to her dress and so she asked the doorman of our hotel for scissors. We then found an alleyway where Travis cut her dress off of her and then ceremoniously threw it into the garbage and they walked hand in hand away.

I’ll have all the images from it up here soon but I couldn’t resist sharing the story and this favorite one. Happy weekend!

4 Days in New York City | The Brooklyn Bridge

Aug 20 at 4:11 pm

One morning, after waking up super early to see Regis and Kelly only to find out after a $12 cab ride that they weren’t shooting that day (way to update your website Regis and Kelly) we walked to the park and then took the Subway down from Midtown to the Brooklyn Bridge and walked across it. All the way across and back. And we almost eloped at city hall. But decided to go get lunch in the village instead. Except after all of that it was still too early for lunch. So we stopped by Amy’s Bread and got some sort of coconut/chocolate chip/graham cracker cookie bar and watched people through the window. In other news, this may be my favorite black and white conversion of all time. I also feel like my images are maturing in their story telling. Living the dream…

I had to stand on the side rail of the bridge for this one: Empire state building through the Washington Bridge tower.
