INFP, Amen. | Be Inspired
I’m not sure how many of you know this, but my degree is actually in Psychology. Over the years I’ve taken many personality analysis tests but the Myers Briggs is my favorite. The real test is pages and pages long but you can take shorter versions online. The accuracy of this test blows my mind and even over the years my results have been extremely accurate. Here is what ole Briggs has to say about me and my thoughts in response (in gray)…
Idealist Dreamers, INFP‘s make up less than 2% of the population. INFPs are introspective, private (outside of blogging?), creative (hope so) and highly idealistic individuals that have a constant desire to be on a meaningful path (I can’t deny it). They are driven by their values and seek peace. Empathetic and compassionate, they want to help others and humanity as a whole. INFPs are imaginative, artistic and often have a talent for language and writing (Why thank you!).
INFPs value authenticity, acceptance, and the search for meaning in life in both the ordinary events of life and the grand scheme of the universe. One source of sustenance for INFPs are those small, genuine gestures from the heart (like when my friend Dayna remembered that I love chocolate oranges!), be they from loved ones or strangers.
Many INFPs do not like attempts to impose shoulds and have-tos. These INFPs find absolute systems of rules that everyone must abide to as confining and arbitrary and simply unfair. (Boundaries? Boxes? NEVER!) As such, INFPs may rail against words that imply that a value system can be imposed from the outside. Sometimes INFPs deny having ideals or principles since it’s possible to equate a reliance on principles with dogmatism and inflexibility. (Um… is my house bugged?) Instead, they prefer to talk about feelings: not momentary emotional states but the personal values on which the feeling function operates. (HAHA. If my friend Phil reads this, he will be laughing at this point.) They’re more spiritually aware than most people, and are more in touch with their soul than others. Most INFPs have strong faith. (True.)
Creative, smart, idealistic, loners, disorganized, (hey now…) they can be overwhelmed by unpleasant feelings. Ambivalent of the rules, solitary, liking esoteric things, and wounded at the core they are prone to dreaming about a rescuer. (Ok! Can we get back to the good stuff now?) Observers who do not like crowds, they like the rain and sometimes can’t control fearful thoughts. They are attracted to the counter culture and can be pessimistic. (Who me?)
When it comes to the mundane details of life maintenance, INFPs are typically completely unaware of such things. (HAHAHAHA…) They might go for long periods without noticing a stain on the carpet, but carefully and meticulously brush a speck of dust off of their project booklet. (HAHAHAHAHAHA. Did you guys talk to Nate before you wrote this?)
Highly creative, artistic and spiritual, they can produce wonderful works of art, music and literature. INFPs are natural artists. (Thank you!) They will find great satisfaction if they encourage and develop their artistic abilities. That doesn’t mean that an INFP has to be a famous writer or painter in order to be content. Simply the act of “creating” will be a fulfilling source of renewal and refreshment to the INFP. (Agreed.)

I’ve taken the real test but always had a problem with the second letter. I never thought it quite fit, so I took the shorter version and guess what? The reason we could sit in a coffee shop for more then 3 hours..or all day if time allowed? I’m just about positive that I am INFP as well, my friend. ;)

@Erin Even when I try to be extraverted, it only works for a little while and I revert to my roots. ;)
@Tamara People assume I’m extroverted too but I get quickly overwhelmed around people and need my space. :) Must be the shoes! ;)
I score evenly between INTJ and INFJ. It makes sense. I’m always going back and forth between my head and my heart. I enjoyed taking the test and reading the results. I always try to be an extroverted person. I’m outgoing enough, but I really am an introvert at heart, despite my Leo sun sign. It’s always productive to learn more about yourself =)
Each time I’ve taken this test, either during my Psychology studies or just “checking up” to see if I’d changed with the world around me, I remain an INFP. The funny thing is, people often perceive me as being more Extroverted.

I always test as INFJ, mostly accurate, but I think I am not as afraid of conflict as an INFJ is supposed to be? Hmmm… maybe is just a matter of self-perception.
@Andrea When I was younger and took the test I got an E too, but it was borderline. As I’ve become more who I really am I’ve gotten steady I’s. :)
Love this post, and the shot of you. I, too, am obsessed with personality tests and surveys. One of my design studios in grad school was collaborative, and we all had to take the Meyers Briggs test. I think it was my favorite part of the studio! I came out an ENFJ, but the E was right on the cusp of I. Since then I’ve taken the test again, and the result was INFJ, which I find more accurate to my personality.
