The Matthews Family + Emmalyn

Davenport, Florida | Family Portraits

Nate and I do not shoot many family portrait sessions anymore but every now and then we can sneak one in when the timing is right. When Sarah found out she was pregnant she asked me if we would be able to do a shoot for her right after the baby was born and we just couldn’t say no. Baby Emmalyn (don’t you adore that name?) was born on November 15, 2010. (The day we were meeting with Dyan who became our first 2012 bride. Hi Dyan!)

Little Emmalyn is so tiny and makes the best facial expressions. She was smooshy and sweet and had that unmistakable, delicious baby smell. She also had a head full of caramel colored hair and those huge doe eyes that suck you in and make you fall instantly in love. Congratulations to the newly three person Matthews family!

Happy first Christmas Emmalyn!

The Little Family | Family Portraits

Sorrento, Florida | Orlando Modern Family Portraits

Meeting Matt and Michelle was like breathing in deep a breath of fresh air. They are tender, gentle, creative, open, and ambitious. They are charm, sweetness, and like looking through new eyes. They let us into their home and lives and world.

We had the honor of meeting, photographing, and getting to know the Little family as a gift from Matt to his wife, Michelle. They are photographers here in Central Florida and while we are always nervous when shooting for other photographers, we were excited for the chance to get to meet these three better. Matt, Michelle, and Noah call Sorrento, Florida, their home even though their accents quickly give them away as the southern charmers that they are. With family roots in Arkansas and a history together dating back to when Michelle was 15, they are a trio of deep wells of affection for each other and you can see it within minutes of meeting them. With such a strong foundation of love at their feet, we cannot wait to continue getting to know them better and watching all the amazing things they accomplish in both life and in the world of photography.

Nate and I don’t usually shoot newborns. We don’t usually shoot much other than weddings and the things that go along with them. But, every now and then it’s nice to do something different. To challenge ourselves in new and different ways. So when Jessica contacted me about documenting their family’s transition from pre-baby to having their world come crashing down around them in an avalanche of love and other equally sweet-as-honey emotions, we were excited to take on the challenge. We met Juliette just a week and a half  after she met the outside world. It was rainy and cloudy and her parents and grandmother were snuggled up in their home. It was beautiful. And Nate and I are excited to share their full post with you later on because Nate shot some absolutely lovely video for you to see. Until then, I leave you with these frames and lyrics from one of my favorite songs about daughters…

I know a girl. She puts the color inside of my world. She’s just like a maze where all of the walls all continually change.
