We don’t do maternity portraits often anymore as our schedule just doesn’t really allow it. But when Traci (one of our oh-so-sweet past brides) told us that she was expecting their first little bébé we couldn’t resist a photographic rendezvous. ♥

A Maternity Session for Melanie (or: “How all I can talk about is babies”)

There’s something about being around babies (and puppies, and Christian Louboutins) that sparks something inside of me. It’s instant butterflies in my stomach and daydreams of little feet (or paws, or clinking heels) tap, tap, tapping across the floor. It seems that everyone and their sister is having babies around me right now which is no good for my baby (or puppy or Christian Louboutin) fever. Have mercy. Poor Nate has to hear me talk about it all the time. (He’s a god among men, people. I’m blessed.) Disclaimer: No babies for us anytime soon. A puppy, maybe. Christian Louboutins… hopefully.

Melanie’s mom and friend gifted before and after sessions to her as a Baby Shower gift which we thought was so sweet. The first is this maternity session and the second will be done once these two get settled in with their new little one. We’re excited to see them again, this time as a family of 3. But until then, enjoy these images of Melanie’s last few days with a baby in her belly (seriously though, she was due the day after we took these. How amazing does she look?!)…

Nate and I don’t usually shoot newborns. We don’t usually shoot much other than weddings and the things that go along with them. But, every now and then it’s nice to do something different. To challenge ourselves in new and different ways. So when Jessica contacted me about documenting their family’s transition from pre-baby to having their world come crashing down around them in an avalanche of love and other equally sweet-as-honey emotions, we were excited to take on the challenge. We met Juliette just a week and a half after she met the outside world. It was rainy and cloudy and her parents and grandmother were snuggled up in their home. It was beautiful. And Nate and I are excited to share their full post with you later on because Nate shot some absolutely lovely video for you to see. Until then, I leave you with these frames and lyrics from one of my favorite songs about daughters…

Olesen Maternity in Baldwin Park

I know what you’re thinking… and yes Jessica may in fact be the most beautiful pregnant woman you’ve ever seen. I aspire to be at least half as effortlessly gorgeous as Jessica when I’m pregnant. These two were absolutely adorable, a bit goofy, and completely in love with each other and their soon-to-arrive daughter. We cannot wait to meet her when she arrives! We decided that Baldwin Park was the perfect setting for these maternity photos as the area pretty much fits these two to a T. (Where does that expression even come from?) I feel like everyone I know right now is either pregnant or having babies. I have no idea what was in the water last spring but, my gosh, it must have been potent! ;)

I love incorporating landmarks of life. Like this that will forever remind them of the home that welcomed their firstborn.

I love the shape that their hands naturally formed in this frame…

The sky was nothing short of BRILLIANT that afternoon. Lucky us.

Maternity Style: Bristin and Anthony heat it up!

Let me just take a minute to say, no plead with the pregnancy gods, “Please, please, when I am 8 months pregnant, can I look even half as good as Bristin does?” I’m so short already that with my luck, I’ll look like a rolly polly in high heels. But I digress…

Bristin and Anthony contacted us for both maternity and newborn portrait sessions (can’t wait!) and we couldn’t have been more excited! And when Bristin emailed me with a tone bathed in worry to tell me that she was grounded on bedrest and that we would have to shoot the session at her home, I was thrilled! There’s something extra cozy and romantic about shooting sessions inside our client’s homes. Not only do we get a sneak peak into their lives that we would never get elsewhere, but they get to be a bit more relaxed in their own turf. Just like the two of them, their home is adorable and we were not at a loss for lovely places to shoot. After shooting some stylist portraits together, Bristin heated it up with some gorgeous boudior poses upstairs! (You heard me ladies, maternity boudoir! Rock it out!)

Thank you so much for inviting us into your home and your lives to document this exciting time! We wish you days full of laughter, lots of relaxing sofa cuddles, and lovely peace and quiet (before the chaos begins!) Oh, and a wonderful New Year’s as you draw closer to the arrival of your daughter! We cannot wait to meet her! We’re so excited for you both!
