Studio Tour | The Living Room

Apr 21 at 2:22 pm

This idea was not original to me. The thought of a shared creative space, especially among wedding professionals is nothing new. However, there just wasn’t anything available in Orlando. So, after much dreaming, the perfect little office opened up. My friend, Anna Bond let me know that the space was going to be available and that was it. I instantly started down the rabbit hole of designing, finding the right people to share it with, and working on the logistics. We’ve got an amazing group of young professionals now that all utilize the space to meet with clients and get work done. I couldn’t be happier with it!

I realized that we’ve been in there for a few weeks now and I had forgotten to post some images of the final space. I will admit, I’m pretty proud of myself for making this space go from empty to finished in roughly 10 days. I’d like to thank the 100′s of (well, maybe 20) design blogs I religiously stalked over the past month for inspiration. It was crazy, stressful, and fun to take on this project but we’ve been absolutely loving the space so far and I foresee nothing but good things for the future. You can see our two “in progress” posts here and here if you want a proper before and after.

This decal is from Tasty Suite on Etsy and I adore it. It came as a gift when I ordered this one for our shower door. ;)

This is what we look like from the street. Soon *hopefully* we’ll have our signage. Parking is behind through that driveway on the left.

This is the “Living Room” where we have our initial consultations and proofing meetings with clients. We love the amount of natural light that pours in through that big bay window. To transform the space we painted all the walls Martha Stewart’s Bedford Gray, recovered an old sofa with a new chenille cover in heather gray, added a separate “dining room” workspace that we separated from the main area with an Expedit bookcase, added a candy bar behind the sofa that also works as extra storage, and threw in some bright yellow accents in the pillows, rug, and plate. Voila!

The silver 2′s I found on sale at Anthropologie and the big canvas above is one of our favorite products available to our clients. Being able to see it in person is so much better than just seeing a photo online. And yes, that’s Kristin & Travis looking gorgeous on it. :)

This is the “dining room” area. Although no one really eats here. It’s used as the computer area where we can plug in a hard drive and get stuff done. The chalkboard behind Nate was painted on the wall and then framed with a gilded frame. We have a few of these big frames scattered around the space. The grass bins are extra storage and also help create a more defined space by filling in the bookcase.

No one probably cares but there’s a little alleyway on the right side of the building so I blocked it off with a trellis and bought some jasmine to pretty it up. I am definitely NOT a green thumb so I was soooooo ecstatic when I looked outside today and saw that the jasmine was already climbing up the trellis and had little flower buds all over. I can’t wait to smell it when they bloom!

This is another of the frames but we hung twine and clips in it as a place to hang snapshots, thank you notes from clients, and other little things. It’s on the back wall leading to the bathroom. And last but not least, Desmond. He’s our token betta fish. He’s got quite the attitude so don’t be scared if you get close to his bowl and he leaps out of the water at you. We’re looking into anger management classes…

I hope you enjoyed our little studio tour of The Living Room. We’ll be announcing an open house/housewarming party in the next few weeks so if you’d like to come by and check it out, stay on the lookout for the invitation. Otherwise, if your a client or a prospective client, we have our meetings by appointment so just contact us to set up a time to come hang out. :)

Studio Space | Color Me Inspired

Studio 222 Photography paintingplan Studio Space | Color Me Inspired

Day by day The Living Room is getting closer and closer to being a finished product. Now we’ve got almost all of the furniture in and a few of the accessories. We’re still missing a bunch of color as we wait for the new sofa upholstery to arrive (it’s gray), search for the perfect curtains and throw pillows (yet undiscovered) and wait for the walls to transform (into shades of gray). When I googled the paint color that won my heart I found out that it also happens to be Martha Stewart’s favorite shade from her entire palette of paint color offerings. Well, great minds think alike because it was my favorite as well. I can’t wait to see what the room looks like with this soft, warm gray on the walls. You can see in the image above where I was testing out colors on the walls. I actually tested them on multiple areas to see how the different light changed them during different times of day and Bedford Gray still came out on top. (The loser on the right ends up looking too blue/purple during the day.) The darker gray shade is for the bathroom. I’m kind of in love with it.

(I feel like I should take this moment to say that I may or may not have an unhealthy obsession with the colors gray and yellow. If you hadn’t already picked up on that.)

My favorite part of decorating is the final styling so I’m kind of anxious for that time in this process. And there are a lot of other things we have that are ready to go but that we can’t do until the walls are dry. I’ve also got to get some signage printed and Nate and I have to get to ordering all our new marketing materials and samples. Nate and I sat in the main area of the room the other day and reveled in how relaxing it was which is great because that’s the exact feel we wanted. This week ahead is going to be a busy one. I can’t wait to have clients come by. Who will be our first visitors?

Studio Space | Intentions and the Initial Freak Out…

4 inspiring images from Interior Styling

Nate and I signed a lease for a studio space in Winter Park last weekend. I’m not even going to lie. I freaked out completely for about 48 hours, considered stopping payment on the check, and almost had a bit of a breakdown. It’s a big undertaking to say the least but the purpose of this space has been a dream of mine for the last year or so and it’s blowing my mind to see it actually taking shape in reality.  It will be a shared meeting space for us and 4 other creative and wedding related businesses here in Orlando. It will also be a place for sharing and learning as the “creative family” inside does what they do best. We’re really excited for the community workshops, photography clinics, and co-working times that we’ll be able to host once it’s up and running. We’re also really excited to be able to have our client meetings here as well as proofing appointments with our brides and grooms at which we can start the design process on your album! It’s affectionately named “The Living Room” which causes a bit of confusion between Nate and I as we furniture shop for both our own house and for this new space. “Wouldn’t this look good in the living room? No, OUR living room, not THE Living Room.” We’ve got a bit of work ahead of us as we we get it ready for it’s big debut. We’ve been measuring windows and transporting furniture, and building bookcases, and picking out paint colors, and antique shopping. We’re hoping to have it ready pretty soon. I’ll try to keep taking photos of the process as we go. Wish us luck!

Yay for you guys! This is awesome!

  • Chad Pilster:

Awesome you two! In a day and age when so many businesses are just 1s and 0s, and they can survive a lifetime that way, I think it means even more to take on the responsibility of a storefront. Congratulations!

Now you need to set the date for an open house, that will give you a hard and fast deadline to get everything done ;)

Can’t wait to see it, and let me know if you need any help getting it ready!
